Missed my one video per month goal last month, and narrowly succeeded this month!
I still have mixed feelings about the Olympics being held during the pandemic, but the awe and admiration from watching the athletes compete remains. While reading comments criticising athletes who fail to make it past semis, heats, and even the cut to qualify for Olympics, I couldn’t help but think about how sports are similar to the arts. Passion for our sport/craft can only bring us so far. The factors for success largely depend on sacrifice and discipline, even if our final forms look effortless to the uninitiated. But we all falter, sometimes while training, sometimes during the final stage. It is make it or break it, and people whose reputation bank on a single stage know it more than any onlooker. As we show support for our favourite (and often national) athletes, let us pay tribute more to their sacrifices, not their achievements.
